Wetsuit Booties
How much weight should I dive with?
It has been about a year since I dove last, and I can't seem to remember how much weight I used. I know it varies a lot between people, but a few rough estimates might help.... (I think I was around 18-22lbs) I'm going to be shore diving this weekend (so I can't really swim all the way out there, then test if I can float)
I am a 135lbs woman who is 5-8. I dive in NorCal with a 7mm wetsuit, glves, booties, hood etc.
Yes, I will be diving in salt water.
There are some variables to consider on how much weight you might need to get down.
I am assuming It is salt water vs. fresh water.
With all equipment being the same you need more weight in salt than in fresh water
If you are renting the equipment ie:wetsuit and BCD a newer wetsuit will require a bit more weight than an older wetsuit. I would opt for the heavier range that you listed and compensate with the BCD.
If at all possible just getting into the water to chest level and dumping the air from your BCD to see if you can comfortably get below the surface would be the ideal.
When you do find the correct weight mark it down in your log book along with the notation of salt or fresh water and the equipment worn.
