It is probably cheaper to bring your own scuba gear. You dont need snacks at all because the ship will provide you with food and drinks 24 hours a day. Also, your most likely will not have a refrigerator in your cabin. I would also suggest you not to book shore excursions, as I have found it too be MUCH cheaper to book things once at the port. You will also find things to do on the port that the ship did not offer. I took a taxi around the Nassau, Bahamas island and it was at least $75 cheaper, per person. 5 "Extra" Things to Remember On Every Dive

Don't leave the dock without it

When you pack your gear bag, your checklist probably includes the usual gear and emergency equipment, mask, fins, regulator and one of those kits with a few extra o-rings, neoprene patches and regulator mouthpieces. Here are a few extra things that you can throw into your gear bag that will make your dive more comfortable, confident, and safe.

Citrus beverages
When I surface, the first thing I want to do is get the taste of ocean out of my mouth. As much as I appreciate the smell of the sea and the salty air, I'm not so enthusiastic about having it on my tongue. Water is refreshing, but I find that I can drink a few liters of bottled water and still taste the remnants of the sea in my mouth.

After experimenting with dozens of beverage candidates, I find that Five Alive is hands-down the best cure for oceanmouth. Other citrus juices are good, but none are quite as effective as Five Alive. The better ones were those that contain acidic juices like pineapple and grapefruit.

The juice serves another purpose: rehydration. It seems counterintuitive that spending an hour submerged in water can cause dehydration, but it's true. The air in your tanks is very dry - necessarily so, since moisture in a tank will rust it from the inside. Just breathing in that dry air for an hour will silently dehydrate you. Drink something when you get back to the boat and you can avoid the symptoms of dehydration such as headache, nausea and dizziness.

Long-sleeved rashgard or cotton shirt
Did you know that the chemicals in sunscreen are poisonous to reef-dwelling marine life? You need to protect your skin from the harmful effects of UV radiation, but you don't want to slather on the SPF lotion before your dive. Cover up the old fashioned way with a cotton shirt or a long-sleeved rashguard.

Are you dependent on your computer? Go back and review your certification training and learn how to calculate your residual nitrogen using tables. Computers are great tools, but it behooves every diver to remember how to manage their nitrogen levels without gadgetry.

A "dry bag"
A dry bag needn't be anything fancy - inexpensive bags with resealable flaps are available at most camping or marine supply stores. They don't need to be watertight to 100 ft - since you leave them on the boat in your gear bag. My favorite is a bright yellow, rubber bag with a top that folds over three times and tucks into itself for an easy watertight seal. Many divers on a budget will use a variety of disposable resealable freezer bags.

In my dry bag, I keep:

Tissues - a necessity. After purging my mask a few times, my sinuses get rebellious.
Cotton Swabs - some gentle attention to get the water out of my ears.
A photocopy of my identification & passport - just in case
Band-aids - because I stub my toes on boats
Everything that was in my pockets - Before donning my wetsuit, my dry bag (by virtue of its sealability) is a good place to keep a cell phone, camera, wallet, jewelery, car keys, etc.

Tell someone where you are going and who you're with.
Make this a habit, so you don't need to be concerned when an emergency arises.

First, make sure the dive operator knows who you are, where you are staying, and who to contact in case of an emergency. If you are injured during a dive, the dive operators might whisk you directly to the nearest hospital, medical clinic or decompression chamber. If the medical staff can't determine your identity, it can complicate your medical attention.

Second, tell someone who isn't diving with you where you are going. That could be others in your party, the hotel concierge, or a phone call to a relative back home. Tell them the name of the dive shop, your destination, the departure time and estimated return time for your dive excursion. If you know it, include the names of the boat, its captain, and divemaster. If you are traveling alone or diving in a group, write the information down and leave it with the hotel office. If your hotel is near a popular diving spot, they will be used to that sort of thing.

Denver Scuba Dive Vacations Start With Scuba Lessons And Diving Gear

Scuba diving is a great way to explore a lovely new location, and many people choose Denver scuba dive vacations for this purpose.  If you are ready to try something new and are looking for an adventurous time, you will want to start with scuba lessons.  Denver swimmers will also need appropriate Colorado scuba diving equipment, and with that, you will be ready for your underwater vacation.

I think that's a Mares Vector 1000 BC. They had a pretty good review from some independent testers. The only thing I can see there that's to dislike is the plastic D rings. Dunno why they didn't bother with stainless.
The rest of the package is "ok", meaning fine for entry level but I wouldn't want to push those regs in cold water and freezing...nope not at all.
Price is ok, but it usually is for online sales (which I'm against for dive gear). You should visit a shop to try things on. Everyone's body is different, not to mention what you plan on doing with that gear. Some rigs suck at wreck diving, but are great reef cruisers, for example.
Think long and hard about your budget and what you need to lay out in the immediate future. Some parts of your rig can be rented until you have the funds to buy and it won't put you in the poor house right away. You'll also have the chance to evaluate more different rigs this way, before a large investment. What also works, is to find divers in the area you plan on doing the most diving and ask them what they prefer and what works in that area. They're gonna know, as they've already travelled that road.
All the major manufacturers are good, Dacor, Mares, OMS, Dive Rite, Scuba Pro Tusa, etc. Prices vary because you're paying for little extras on each particular rig. Some regs may be environmentals, meaning you can add 1/3 on to the cost immediately as compared to a similar reg that isn't. Same goes with those stainless D rings I mentioned earlier. There should be little or no plastic attachment points on a solid BC, but you're gonna pay for it. Stainless costs more than plastic.
I guess it all comes down to the old adage " Buy the best that you can afford" and dive within the limitations of that equipment.

If you're taking a open water course through a shop, then I have some news. You've already decided that, that particular shop is trust worthy. You are , after all, trusting them to teach you properly at a cost that you've deemed reasonable. That same principle follows through with selecting and buying the gear.
Most shops include the use of environmental suit if needed, buoyancy compensator, tank and lead weight. Most will expect you to already own and use your own mask , snorkel and fins. This part of the kit should be your first buy. The rest can always be rented anywhere in the world after you've completed the course, so you don't need to rush out and buy anything right away and can build your own kit up gradually as your finances allow. It's a great way to be still diving and yet be able to purchase some top end gear when you've saved for it and not get strapped financially.
1/ The mask. It HAS to fit. You need to try it on. Not all masks are made the same and no human face is the same. Test them in the shop by holding the mask against your face, no strap, inhale through your nose a bit and drop your hands from the mask. If it stays on 15 seconds or more, it's an ok fit. If it falls off before then, move to the next mask. Take all the ones that passed and choose your mask. Things to look for? A good quality strap and attachment points. Good visibility out of the mask, especially downwards ( it sucks to have to feel around on your BC to find items). Purge or no purge? Go with no purge. It adds cost to the mask, can get gummed up and you don't need it as you'll be taught how to clear the mask of water without one.
2/ Fins- Try on as many pairs as you can before you purchase. Everyone's kick style is different. I can't use the split fins at all. I get no place fast with them but a stiff fin like a Blade, no problem at all. Some of my pals are the opposite. Your local shop can give you guidance here and possibly lend you some demos to try in a pool.
3/ Snorkel- It has to clear easily, be comfortable and fit as close to you as possible to keep you stream lined. I disagree with the person that said avoid a curved snorkel. Most decent snorkels these days ARE curved to keep them closer to your head and make for a lower profile (streamlined). The less gear you have sticking out everywhere the better. Less chance of something getting caught and less energy needed to move yourself through the water column.
Later on, when you start buying your exposure protection (wet/ dry suit), BC and regs, you'll have some diving under your belt and will have gotten to know a few other divers and watched how their gear performs, maybe even borrowed some to try out in "real world" conditions. You'll have a better understanding on what type of gear you'll need for the type of diving you plan primarily on doing. An example would be the regs. There's no point spending the extra money on a set of environmentals that will never see cold water or a dry suit for the same reason. As for the BC, it's your back pack and your method of buoyancy control. It HAS to fit and all it's pockets , air dumps and D rings need to be easily reached. Jacket or back inflation style? Your choice, there are pros and cons for both. In a back inflation, you tend to tip face first on the surface but most people tend to be naturally in the proper swim position with no effort when under. The elastics on the air bladder sometimes need adjusting as well, to help the bladder expel air in a dump. Some back inflation BC's have a capability of being used with a back plate and double tanks as well as an interchangable bladder if it's aback inflation harness type. A jacket style floats you evenly, more or less, at the surface, but you might experience some roll when submerged, depending on your lead distribution. You also tend to feel squeezed a bit on the surface if it's inflated quite a bit. This type is generally a little cheaper than a back inflation.
Both types offer integrated lead these days, which does away with wearing a weight belt but makes the BC heavier to move around just prior to your dive. This type also makes changing the amount of lead you take with you easy to do as you only need to open the lead pockets and take out a bag from each side or for that matter, adding lead if you dive dry. Easier than fumbling with keepers on a traditional lead belt and doesn't hurt as much when you drop a weight on your toes.
Edit: It's in your best interest to purchase gear from a place that you can inspect it and have it serviced when required.
In response to the answer below me. Buying online, though an attractive price solution, is NOT the place to buy gear that your life depends on. The old saying "you get what you pay for", holds true here. Additionally, lakes can be just as exciting as ocean diving, perhaps even more so if you are a wreck diver. I've never dived a 1870's ocean ship wreck because there are none that still remotely resemble a ship. I have, however, dived many in the Great Lakes. Oceans claim ships quickly. Lake locations can actually help preserve them.

Diving - Is it Safe?
Scuba Diving can be a dangerous sport if you do not take a 'be safe always' approach when entering the water. It has a lot to do with your personality at the end of the day. It will be as safe as you want it to be, even in times of extreme weather or water conditions. it is important to be always stay alert. Just like crossing the road, if you don't take precautions and follow the simple rules that you have learnt as a child, accidents can happen anytime anywhere!
Get certified by a professionally recognised centre
Many new divers do not check that the centre they are learning from, particularly when they visit more remote places in Asia, that their dive instruction is received from a professionally organised and run centre. There is often a presumption that all dive centres have gone through proper checks, controls and certification. Unfortunately, there are many who profess to be qualified to instruct, but to save costs, have not received authentication from professional bodies such as PADI or SDI which have strict rules and requirements for all dive operators. Don't miss this first check when you step in. Always ask to see proof of their certification.
Be medically certified to dive
See your doctor before you sign up for dive instruction. No one else should care as much about your safety as you! And no one else will be as sorry as you if there are accidents or problems when you dive. Get physically checked and if necessary, obtain a letter from your doctor authorising you to learn to dive.
Be aware of the conditions and your own diving competency level
Sometimes, it is best to follow your instinct. If you feel the currents are too strong, or you are not feeling well, stop your dive by informing your buddy straightaway and ascend together. Do not try to attempt a dive if you are uncomfortable. We have seen many experienced divers abandon dives due to strong currents, and that has saved them and their dive group a lot of trouble.
Never dive in terrain or environments you are not certified for
In order to dive caves, do night dives or penetrate wrecks, you should have received proper training and certification before you attempt them. There are techniques that you must learn in order to be safe for such specialty dives. Choose from the wide range of the Specialty Courses that krabidivers.com conducts regularly which is of interest to you, and you will find that you will be much more confident whenever you dive the next wreck or cave.
Be prepared to say "No" to a dive
If you find yourself uncomfortable or unsure, even after you have started to descend or are in the middle of a dive, it is OK to cancel that dive and come back another day when the conditions are more favourable. It does not mean that you are not a good diver - infact very often, it is the smart diver who knows himself best - and knows when to say "No thanks, I will sit out this one."
Never dive alone
Regardless of experience levels, you should never dive alone. If you lose your buddy during a dive, look around for no more than one to two minutes. If you still cannot find your buddy, you should end your dive and make your way up to the surface. Not only will it be safer for you, it will also give comfort to your buddy that you are watching out for him too.
Prepare for a dive well
The night before a dive trip, you should always rest well, and hydrate yourself by drinking lot of water. And, you should not have a heavy night's drinking as alcohol causes dehydration. Dehydration contributes to many diving-related illnesses.
Always check your dive gear before each dive (especially for rental gear!)
Before you go on each dive, always check all your dive gear again. Make sure that your regulator and hoses are working well without leaks, your BCD inflates well and your tank has the right level of air. Do not assume that just because you have returned from one dive safe and sound, using the same set of dive gear will not cause any problems on the next dive. Many shops have rental gear which may not have been serviced well or for a long time. You should check all gear, rental or your own, well before every single dive.
Choose a buddy who dives like you
While choosing a buddy who dives like you may not be an option many of the times, it is always good to get to know your buddy before you start diving together. Ask simple questions such as how many times he has dived, where he has dived, when his last dive was, and how good he is at air usage. This will help you to also anticipate problems your buddy may have during the dive. The most enjoyable dives are sometimes when you have a good buddy, who shares with you the sights he comes across and paces well with you throughout the dive.
Drink plenty of water
Diving can be a very dehydrating sport. Make sure that before every dive, you have plenty of water. I always make it a point to drink a cup of water just before I jump into the water. This has always helped me to stay well hydrated throughout the dive for the next 45 to 60 minutes.
Pay attention during your pre-dive briefing
Dive briefings are important to help you understand what to expect when in the water. Your dive guide will explain about the terrain, what you should expect to see as well as how to best navigate yourself around the dive site for a most enjoyable dive. It will also help you to anticipate changes in the terrain so that there are no surprises.
Be aware of sympthoms of hypothermia, heat exhaustion and dehydration
Watch out for all the sympthoms as you are your best judge of whether your dive will cause any problems. It is always best to be safe and not sorry, so look out for tingling sensations, nausea, giddiness, numbness and any other sensations that makes you uncomfortable. Inform your dive buddy and/or your dive guide about it, and stop the dive and start your ascend to the surface.
Respect marine life
All marine life needs to be respected, not just the big stuff. Be very aware of your surroundings and the fish and coral life around you. Do not touch anything as far as possible, especially if you are unsure if it will be poisonous. Remember, the ocean belongs to the marine life and we're the visitors!

Diving is as safe as any other sport. As divers, we have a responsibility to the environment, to other divers and most of all, to ourselves to ensure safety and preservation. Safe diving is practiced if you choose the right partner to dive with, so make sure you find out about the dive centre, instructors and guides, and feel very comfortable that they practise the prescribed safety standards diligently and conscientiously.
