i don't know why you stayed in that relationship for two years and why didn't you call for help? you should have been on the verge of being done the first time he abused you. and it is up to you to try this new guy but you should find out more about him before you jump into a relationship with him because you could be going from the pot to the kettle, meaning that you don't know him and you need to find out about him first. if you are tired of being a sex object you need to rest for awhile before you jump into another relationship with anyone. he could be just like the guy that you are getting away from. are you afraid to be alone for awhile? it should be a breath of fresh air to be alone for awhile after just getting out of an abusive affair. take your time and seek out a nice guy. do not just jump into another relationship for the sake of saying that you have a man. what is the hurry plus are you sure that you are through with your ex and do not want him anymore? no you don not need someone else to distract you from your ex. why do you need a distraction, why do you need a distraction if you are going to leave him or he you. you awe to be tired of the abuse and if you are going to miss that you have a serious problem. cool off first. and let that abuser go on about his business.find something else to do to distract you and don't bring someone else into your life if you are not sure whether or not you are over your ex. you can get over being lonely if you try hard enough. you just feel good about him saying those nice things to you because your ex didn't and it sounds good to you for some one else especially a man to say good things to you. for now just take him as a friend until you find out some more about him.

Buying second hand scuba equipment does have its risks.

You need to research it to see if the equipment is still being made. This is for when the gear needs any servicing (which is done annually).
If the items have been discontinued by the manufacturer for more than 7 years there is a good chance that replacement parts may not be available.

You also need to know when the gear was last serviced. Just because it has been sitting in someones closet, attic, basement or garage untouched for the last 5 years does not mean that it doesn't need to be serviced. There are parts that need to be changed out annually.

Buying new is wiser as you know there are parts available come time for servicing. The equipment is backed by manufacturer warranties (for original owner when purchased from a manufacturer authorized dealer).

If you are buying new on the internet, always check to see if the website selling the gear is a manufacturer authorized dealer.

As far as drysuits, they are great for cold water diving but people wearing them need to be trained in water on their proper use. Dive Facilities will usually have a separate course for those wishing to use drysuits.

The first thing you need to know is don't do it unless you are with an instructor. There are classes called "Discover Scuba" and others that will give you a first taste of diving. You must have basic water skills before you dive. I know that PADI requires a 200 yard swim (without stopping) and treading water for 10 min before they are allowed to take the class.

A BCD is a Buoyancy Control Device. It's not a lifejacket. They are made for use UNDER water not on top of it. Yes divers use them to stay afloat to rest while on the surface, but it's not normally for long periods of time. Many of them will push you forward in the water if you are not weighted properly.

My recommendation is don't just decide to go diving with some buddies without getting proper instruction first. You would be risking your life and the lives of your friends also. If they are going diving then you should stay on the surface with a life jacket on and snorkel, and even then there should be someone to show you the proper techniques so you will have a good time.

Think of that gear as you would tools. Buy what you need to do the job at hand. It would be insane of you to purchase say, a Viking commercial grade dry suit to dive 70 F water, likewise buying an OMS rig for just cruising a reef would be overkill as well.
Define the type of diving you plan on doing and purchase appropriate gear both in cost and function.
1/ Mask- the rule is that it fit you. If it doesn't, then spending 150 bucks on a top end ocean master or even an Optrix is money down the toilet. Check the fit in store by holding it against your face and no strap. In hale once, through your nose, slightly. If it stays on for 30 seconds or more, it's an ok fit. Falls off? Move on to the next mask. When you're done this test with all the masks, take the ones that passed and check your field of view. The mask that offers good downward vis, decent side and is low volume is the winner. Don't buy a mask just because it has a purge valve. Just a bell and whistle and may be a source of a leak later.
2/ BC- Plan on tech diving later? You'll want lift and something that will go doubles. OMS or Dive Rite here. Cruise the reef, just about any BC made by a major manufacturer is fine so long as it fits and has the functionality you need. Gonna wreck dive eventually? You'll want pockets and D rings out your nose and something streamlined that's back inflation. Weight integrated would be a bonus but you'll pay for it.
3/ Regs- If you don't ever plan on diving a cold location, then don't spend the money on environmentals. All major brands of reg manufacturer's have decent gear and they are always trying to out do one another. Don't skimp on this part of your budget. Buy the best you can afford for the type of diving you plan on doing.Check up with www.scubadiving.com's reviews on the newest and their test results. Spend the money on a custom mouthpiece. It's worth it. Myself, I dive both Apeks and old Sherwoods. I have had a freeze with the Apeks but not with my trusty old Woodies. If there's a possibility I might get a freeze, then I dive the 'woods, if not, then the Apeks for the breathing ease.
4/ snorkel- Something that clears easily and also can be stowed in a pocket. There are a number that can fold. Personal preference here.
5/Tank- Alum 80 is the standard. No point in going steel unless you're thinking of going tech.
6/ Gauges- Think streamlined. Other than that and whether you wish to have an integrated computer on the console, all are more or less the same. Some mounts offer a canted view for your compass, some don't.
7/ Fins- Try out as many as you can before buying. Everyone's kick style is different and not all fins do well in every situation. For example, I can't stand split fins. My kick style won't work with them and I silt out wrecks with the damn things. I also dive in heavy current most of the time. I do better with Blades and oddly enough, I don't tire with them like I do with splits. Some of my pals are the opposite.
8/ Wet suit- Here's the fit thing again. Everyone's body is different. So is their tolerance of cold. If you can find one ( US Diver's makes one) get a semi dry. They're warmer but a little harder to get on or off because of the wrist , neck and ankle cuffs. Mind you, if you're diving 70F or warmer you won't be needing that. Get info on the temps in the area that you plan on diving most and what others are wearing. Manufacturers again, doesn't matter. All the major brands like Bare or Henderson, for example are good. Buy for the area you plan on diving. If You're a great lakes diver, then something with reinforced knees and elbows is a good idea. Zebra mussels will shred anything not reinforced. Same goes for gloves. Hood? Will you need one? Some suits have an integrated hood that you can choose to wear or not. Most don't so you'll need to purchase one if diving cold. Booties? Just like buying shoes, try them on and go for a walk about. Make sure there are no pinch points when you slip on your fins. It sux having great fitting , good rock climbing booties feel like they are driving a nail into you little toe when you get your fins on.

Hit your local dive shops. A lot of dive shops have clubs. Many will have second hand gear that club members put up for consignment sales if they bought a newer bit of gear or they've outgrown their normal gear ( donuts will do that to you). Chances are pretty good that the shop will know the history of that gear because they will have serviced it for the seller. That shop will also make sure it's safe and in good working order before even listing it for sale. It's in their best interest to do that since they want you happy. Happy divers come back to the shop to buy more gear. Dead divers don't.
A complete used gear package can go from a grand and up.That's almost like asking how much to expect to pay for a used car. It depends on the car and it's condition.
New gear and you can expect the price to start at around 1500 bucks all in. It only goes up from there. I've got about 30 grand invested in my two rigs for my recreational gear for example.
Edit: Tony is on my BS list. He likes to BS people and the guy has no idea of what he's talking about. That would be why he is the only person I have blocked. Period. He's not dead yet. He should be. He once advocated using a 32 % mix at 250 feet. Uhhh..right.

Scuba Diving Made Easy!

By definition, Scuba Diving is the use of self contained, underwater breathing apparatus and as such was named by the uses of this equipment. When an individual going underwater for long periods of time it is essential that you have equipment to breath.

Sometimes diving takes place very deep under the sea and it wouldn't be practical or even feasible to come up for air every half minute when you've run out of oxygen in your lungs. The diver wears all this equipment on his back and swims underwater with fins on the feet for easier mobility in the water much like a fish has fins.

The History of Diving

Scuba diving has been around for a long time already and was mainly designed and created to have purpose in the world wars or to be utilized in battle. The soldiers in those times used something similar to scuba diving equipment however it was called a frogman. A doctor developed this in the era of WWII by the name of Christian Lambertsen and although scuba diving is used for many reasons today, it is becoming even more popular with the advancements that it is making in the recent decades.

Risks Associated with Scuba Diving

There are many risks associated with scuba diving that may seem that they are not risks however changes in air pressure is probably the most dangerous risk facing scuba diving with the exception of getting eaten by a shark. Changes in pressure in the water can cause such extreme pressure that it can rupture an eardrum or do damage that is even less desirable.

Every part of your body is required to be equalized by the pressure surrounding you depending on the depth of water you are in and if you are changing water depths. Another common known scuba diving problem is called oxygen toxicity, which is especially dangerous, and life threatening in that it can cause seizures and has often resulted in the diver drowning.

However like any other accident, this is a completely preventable issue by following diving instructions properly and safely. Nitrogen narcosis can affect a diver when he gets to sixty-six feet and generally dissipates immediately as the diver sinks lower than this depth. There are many dangers that face a diver and it is wise to get professional guidance.
